Audi A4

Mill

Anyone here drive a 99-01 Audi A4? I am thinking about buying one(friend has one and I love it). I am specifically looking for feedback on the 1.8t quattro.

Don't own one but I've driven an 03' Passat 1.8T and it was a blast. I think the engine was tweaked 01 for the Audi though so it's probably better to get that year and up if you're considering it. The HP was increased, but I think it's the same if you chip it.

I am certain I will chip it.

Nice handling sporty car.

Some models have their problems. Check the service history of the used car you're looking at to see if it's a dud (i.e. Monday car--cars assembled on Monday's are notorious for problems due to Germans coming to work unmotivated and with hangovers on Monday 😉 )

My mom owns one and I've driven it a couple times. Its a really nice car... very smooth ride and steers well.

She has the 1.8t quattro (2001 I think) and the one thing that bothers her sometimes she said is that since its a V4 the pickup is a little slow compared to her last car. She said she had to adjust the space she leaves between the incoming car when she pulls out.

Something I should add is that, for some reason, nobody ever chips these things or the 1.8T VWs either. People always say you can add 1500 HP for $400 and what not, but I've yet to actually come across anybody who's DONE it. Now, don't go loading up google and finding somebody who has, because I know some people have, but for some reason very few people do, even when they're aware of being able to. Dunno why...

Audis are nice, but especially without the chip going from your mustang to that thing you're going to feel like it's a slug. Only you can really decide though by test driving it or going to an audi dealership locally and test driving theirs!

We'd consider an audi a4 in the future because mrsskoorb has always wanted an audi and they are nice cars.

If you go to clubb5 or vwvortex, or club1.8t, its a different story. And they claim more around 200HP for 300-400, and a decent increase in torque.

These are some of my favorite cars on the road. I'm not crazy about the recent redesign that rounded out the A4 ass so it looks like the A6, but even that is growing on me. The years you mentioned though are just right. I'm not sure if you go to vwvortex.com, but you should check out the Audi classifieds there. I've seen a few people selling A4 at nice prices and they seem to be well maintained because they are car guys ya know? Unfortunately I just drive to the train station so I can't justify a nicer car.

I read about alot of people chipping thier VW 1.8Ts, but VW can void the warranty if they catch it which might be why someone poeple hesitate. Personally, I've always driven cheap, underpowered cars so I'd probably be happy with a stock 1.8T.

I babysat one this past year for a friend who is in the Marines. Very nice car to drive. It may not have the torque or HP of a Mustang, but it is a very nice driver right out of the factory. Awesome shifting (very similar to the Saab 9-3 for smoothness) and just a great ride in general. I would have no hesitation in recommending an A4 Quattro to anyone.
