Hi all,

I just ended up with a A4 B8 2014 without the BO upgraded sound system. I thought it'd be OK (got the color I wanted, sport package and all...minus BO) and the sound system is HORRIBLE.

How hard is it to upgrade? From what I've read, the speaker depth on the doors is thin. There's a down firing subwoofer on the back, can I make that fire upwards? There's also a center channel...but it looks like it's more than one speaker.

First off, where can I find the right amps? 5.1 basically - all amps look to be 4.1 amps instead. Can I just get Audi to install the BO system now?

Thanks!

I would seriously doubt you will get the dealer to install the upgrade, it's not worth their risk. You may be able to do it yourself, but you will end up spending loads more than a custom aftermarket system.

I suspect that Audi has tuned the sound of the system at the HU in various ways that cannot be rectified without a signal processor, so adding an amp and sub will just cause it to sound worse, louder. No guarantees on that, though, since I do not have any Audi experience.

Have you listened to the upgraded system? Maybe you won't like it, either.

I imagine the cost of getting the sound upgrade installed at the dealer would be the same, if not more, than getting a better audio system installed a a car audio place.

I have the premium audio in my A5, and it is just okay really. But, I listen to the radio on my 10 minute (if I catch the train) commute, so that might not be the best metric to judge it. I've had cars with truly good audio equipment and the problem with is none of that can fix how poorly cars are acoustically.

2014 Audi?

Blech. What a terrible situation. Whatever you do, be very VERY careful to not screw up the warranty or do anything that could result in audi denying claims.

First thing I would do is go to the dealer and compare it side-by-side with another car with the same setup. Maybe you have a bad amp or some coding issue.
