A4 cuz the 330 is significantly more expensive, but if price was not an issue 330

Do what I did and buy the E46 M3 instead. Its only about 10k more than the loaded 330i, and ALOT faster! If your gonna be spending 40k+ on a BMW or Audi...you might as well go that extra mile and get the most for your buck.

Just a side suggestion though, BMW is releasing the new M3 in about a year or so with the current M5 400hp+ motor, and it will be selling for about the same cost as the current M3 now. Or u can just go for the new S4 which is about 5k more than the loaded 330i, but alot faster. Just my .02 cents. Happy shopping!

Really not that much of a $ difference - assuming you go w/ AWD cuz you really can't compare FWD with RWD. Compare here

Bimmer gets my vote!

Why the 3.0 in the A4 though? Man that thing goes through gas. I have the 2.8 V6 and I wish it got better mileage than it does.

The best engine for the A4, IMO is the 1.8t

I've heard that from people. AWD must just slaughter milage. I've got the 2.8 in my Passat wagon, which is a heavier car than the A4, and I still pull about 28MPG on the highway and 21 or so in town. I average out to about 25MPG in mixed driving. I'm really happy with the milage.

These cars are gonna eat gas no matter what.

My IS300 goes through gas like no other, but I do tend to have lead foot.
It's more fun driving it that way.

More fun = Eats more gas.

330i with stick shift! at least get the Sport Package, but if you want something better, get the Performance Package. But it will set you back like 3000, I think...

Some bmw dealers here are selling 2003's for invoice. My coworker just picked up a 325i for invoice

Money is no object then BMW, just a better made car and a more well rounded package...if you live on the East coast and want to save some money then go with the A4 3.0, it isn't that popular as most opt for the lower expense versions so you might get a better deal and the AWD is nice...

330i w/ perf package ^^

i test drove both, and a4 3.0 feels sluggish, where as the 330i does what you want it to do. i'm picking up a 330i sometime this week actually. yay!! ^^ if i were to get an a4, i would've gotten the 1.8t over the 3.0.

yea the pricing issue is there, but if you can get over the sticker shock, bmw hands down.

before you start touting how much better awd is, all wheel drive in the snow belt is only as good as your snow tires. (i have a talon tsi awd right now, and it's dog on snow w/ all season tires on there.. :( and if yer gonna get a snow tire, even rwd sticks pretty good.

if u get the audi, will u get the quattro? if not it will be FWD, which is blech

if u do get the quattro, it is in the same ballpark with the 330i, so now it is just a matter of preferance.

I personally prefer the 330 (I have a 330ci), it just has MUCH MUCH better handling, and acceleration is also better

Nice thread. I'm buying a car in the next few months, and I'm trying to decide between these two cars.

BUT, my brother in laws good friend works at a BMW dealer, and told me that I would be able to get the car at book value through him. (I'm buying a 2001, most likely.)

I need to do more research. But, a 3 Series is like a dream car for me.

You don't know how to drive then. I have a '91 TSi AWD and drove it during winter in Minnesota last year and it absolutely 0wned any other vehicle I've ever driven in the snow. I went out and raced snow plows through freshly-fallen snow just because I could. This was on some worn down Goodyear Eagle RSAs too (rears were badly balding) nothing compared to my current Michelin Pilot Sports. You just have to not be afraid to give it some gas to regain traction is all.

I don't see getting an A4 or 330i without going 10k better for a much more powerful S4 or M3.

whatever the choice [they're both excelent cars, but make sure you get them in stick =)], DO NOT get silver paint color. it is THE most common color on a bmw!! every other one you see here in Cali is silver!!!!!!!!!
