Auctions ? Makes no sense !

From time to time I check the auctions sites - like Ub*d, Egay etc.
People are nuts ! They bid when they don't have to yet, creating more bids and higher prices.
Ub*d - why are they bidding so early and so much. Check the digital cameras - morons are bidding as high as $500 for a refurb worth $600 new!
And some buying tens of them. WTF ? Do I miss something here ?
Enlighten me.

I think there are some people who do that.
None of my autions get many bids even if I start at 1 cent and I have a good rating.

He He, it is just not on the internet, go to one of those home stuff auctions sometime. I saw a old (not antique) toaster go for $20.00, get a new one for 10. Box of old rusty pipe wrenches for $100.00, people are nuts.

yeah no kidding, does it seem like there's more unregistered users now with 100+ feedback than those with 0 or 1? maybe it's just me, but it didn't sem as common there a year ago. at least e-bay's starting to crack down on this harder but its still tough to pick up if the seller's not too greedy.

i busted this guy last summer. he was selling laptops that went way over what the going rate was (on a consistent basis). it was pretty easy to see he was shilling.
