fleabay question - your opinions please.....

I am new to fleabay and am not sure of how they do things over there. I have bought & sold in forums on Anand and know that if a seller has no refs, normally they will ship the goods before the buyer pays them.....

On fleabay, I have bought an item and the seller has 5 evals.....3 positive, 2 negative. Now I feel a little uneasy about sending off cash to him. Is it reasonable to ask him to ship first ? Or is that unheard of at fleabay ?

What are the terms outlined in his listing? You are obligated to adhere to those terms. If you were uncomfortable, then you should not have bid.

Russ has it right.

Some good rules of thumb:

1.Always pose questions to the seller before you bid.

2.Read the auction over carefully. Sellers usually get questions that were answered on the auction page.

3.Buy from sellers with high positive feedback. You have a smaller chance of getting ripped off from high rated sellers.

4.Leave feedbak after a transaction. This lets others know how reliable the seller/buyer is.

5.Usually, you are required to pay first. Auction sites have policies that protect the users from being ripped off, read these and familiarize yourself with them.

If I think of more, I'll post them.

What's the nature and dating of the positive and negative feedback? Sometimes negative is for something silly, or when the seller first started on there and have since improved.

Why not use an escrow service to insure that you get your item?! One such company is called Trade Enable (Formerly known as i-Escrow). Here's a small list of escrow companies.

By using this type of service, you avoid angering the seller. A trustworthy person will not refuse to use such a service, nor should he get angry if someone suggests this type of transaction. If he does, I'd be very wary...
