i know you guys with 1000+ posts know what im talking about
and most of you do anyways...
so please feel free to chime in

am i phrasing this incorrectly?

are all the au optronics 16ms panels pretty much the same?
i know viewsonic and nec and others use au optronics panels
what are other options?
what are the differences in the actual panels themselves?

thanks

The backlight and controls differ also.

Hitachi CML174 is among the cheapest and made by Compal. It has the least functional stand and a weaker backlight than the NEC 1760NX (Lite-On) and ViewSonic VP171. Planar PX171M has a pivot stand like the ViewSonic but also integrates speakers. In the analog realm there are also the likes of the BenQ FP767 but I recommend going with DVI. I think ViewSonic is the best all-around but if you don't need the pivot stand and can save some scratch then the NEC is next. However, it does not include a DVI cable as the others do so that must be factored into the total cost. Color options offered by Hitachi are grey and white, NEC black and white, ViewSonic black and silver, Planar black, white and silver.

Auric; i think the backlights are the same. The VP171B includes two analog connectors (which in my opinion is garbage) but some people like to use it to switch between two machines easily.
