atx to atx2 power connector

I am installing a new motherboard, it has a 24 pin power connector. My power connector only has 20 pins, are the other 4 for use as an alternative place for the 4 pin 12v connector?

No.

You can find a 20->24 pin adapter from your local computer buds if you feel this is a problem. Check your mobo manual - use of the 20-pin in the 24-pin mobo slot might be okie-dokey.

HOWEVER, I have seem some mobos require a 24-pin to direct adequate voltage to the PCIe x16 slot ....
