Is the 300W just necessary for Athlons? Are there specific mb
or proc that needs the 300W?

If you have an Atlhon, a 300W PS is defintly recommended, also, a GeForce draws alot of power, so I would recommend one there, if you are going to use extra cooling, a 300W PS is needed.

If you are buying a new case and have the choice between 250 or 300, I would get the 300W, if the price difference isn't too much, which it isn't normally

Some video cards also prefer extra power, being there is not much difference in price go for the 300w it will last longer then the 250w before you have to upgrade again.

Thanks 4 your help.. :)

One more piece of advice if you wouldn't mind,
could u recommend any decent sound/video cards?

this is my setup so far..

duron 600
abit kt7
128 mb mushkin pc133

was thinking about SB 128 pci or live! value for sound
was thinking ATI Xpert 98 8MB agp for video...

these sound ok/compatible w/ my existing setup?

i'm not a gamer so I don't need a raging video card...
love the mp3's though.. so I wan't a decent sound card...

any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!

caffrey ,I`ve used both SB128PCI, & now use SBlive,so no problems there,I`ve just installed a Geforce2 MX in my MSI K7T PRO board no problems at all, have tried five 3D games all work great(had a old TNT1 AGP installed before).

Yeah, I think I will have to recommend just about the same :)

Sound - Sb Live
Graphics - GeForce 2 MX is very good, good performance for the price, if you do want to play games at a later date. Other wise, I guess that ATI is good, that is what i had, it was sharp until i o/c it too much

I run and MSI K7T pro, with Duron 600, Geforce2 MX, IBM 10GB 7200 RPM HD, 10/100 network card, Adaptc SCSI card, 50X CD-Rom, and a JAZ Drive on a genaric 250 watt power supply without any problems.
