I have a PSU without a ATX 12/P4 4-pin plug a nice older 400 Watt Antec. but I have an extra one I cut off from a dead $20 PSU(No hardware died) can I just solder it to a molex splitter I cut up? 12V yellow to the 2 yellow wires and black ground to the 2 black wires? and would it work fine? as long as everthing is insulated? thanks this is for an AMD MB that has that connection

Hi Wiz, I've only checked out two Mother Boards with the extra molex connector. Both of these had the Molex wired in parallel with the main connector. They work with any power supply. Molex or not. The molex is to beat the IR losses in the main cable. I would guess that some Power Supplies have the Molex calbles wired to the same place as the other cables in the Power Supply. Looks like the MB and PS engineers on those two MBs didn't get along with each other. Check your's out with an ohm meter. I'm sure that better (faster) MBs will require the Molex from the PS. Jim
