ATX 12v 2x2 connector

I "think" I already know the answer, but I just want to make sure.

If you have a intel mobo that has both ATX 12V 2x2 (4 pin) and the extra 2x4 (8 pin) connector, you need to power both of these correct? My old amd setup only took the 2x4 connector and has a modular psu....so I never bothered to plugin or even keep the 2x2 connector. I plugged in the 2x4, powered it up....get 8 beeps and shuts off, which indicates CPU error....which I'll guess is because no 2x2 plugged in.

I was on the fence about upgrading to a seasonic platinum 760W....this pretty much sealed the deal for me. Yeah, I could have ordered just the cable.....but what fun would that be.
