Recently I am having problems with XP where DMA refused to be enabled for my DVD Rom. I made a few posts here and found that a few fellow members are having similar problems. Either with their DVD / CDRs.
Everying was working in win2k, DMA is enabled in BIOS no hardware changes. As soon as I switched to XP DVD Rom boes back to PIO mode.
Last night inspired by a post in the video forum. I tried moving my DVD Rom from primary master (HDDs on external controllers) to primary slave. All of a sudden DMA is enabled again under XP.
Now I gather that somehow XP just doesn't like having an optical drive in primary master running DMA. I am not sure if the same goes to secondary master.
For those of you who are experiencing similar problems it's definately worth experimenting with. Now I can watch DVDs again without CPU going right up to 100%!!!
Good luck.
