Man....I'll try to make this short, but I'll include cliffs at bottom just in case.......

Got sunrocket back in September. Was great all the way 'til December. End of December wife noted crackling/popping when I called her at work. I can't hear it on my end. Then started getting other people telling me the same thing.

Now.....if I have that SAME PERSON call me back......line's clear on both sides.....

Have Time Warner cable w/ 4mbps/512kbps service. Tests are awesome. Voip tests are awesome. Everything's perfect. Changed phones, changed wires, coax, Cat5, ATA in front of router, behind router, reboots, swap computers, etc. etc. etc. Finally..........got SR to send me a new ATA. Same exact thing. No change.

Call SR & tech is confused. I bring up "CLEC" problem, since it was suggested to me as inbound calls are different from outbound. (remember.....this doesn't happen at all on inbound calls of any kind, only outbound and only on the rec'vr's end) that perhaps the particular CLEC handling my call has a bad......whatever......???

Haven't heard from SR since last night. (They escalated it to Tier 2)

Last thing I did was bring my ATA to work & hook up to my work's network. (Pathetic 768/128 DSL on ancient equipment). Guess what...........WORKS BEAUTIFULLY.......even to known bad #'s who'd hear the clicks/pops all the time.

Now what?? Can SR force Verizon (my local handler) to change CLEC's?? Is that even how it works???

To say I'm disgusted at this point is an understatement, but what did I want for $13/month, right??

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cliffs:

1.) Crackling/Popping heard ONLY on rec'vr's end and ONLY on outbound calls. (And apparently only most.......though not all......local calls)

2.)Tried everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) to remedy problem per SR protocol.

3.)Brought ATA to work & popping/clicking is gone to known problem rec'vrs.

4.)At a loss for what to do now

Easy question that causes most all network problems....did you make you own patch cables?

No, you can't force verizon to change CLECs.

Verizon is a CLEC... cant force verizon to change themself ;)

For actual troubleshooting...

is the phone DIRECT to the ata? or thru walljacks?

if it's thru a walljack.. connect DIRECT to the ata

most home wiring is garbage.. any packet drop will cause voice quality issues on a voip call, as there is no line integrity which will retransmit a dropped packet

check your cable connection (pc direct to the modem... not thru your router) for ANY packet loss. as above.. any packet loss will cause voice quality issues.

if that works..

keep a steady ping to some internet site when you make a phone call.. note ANY packet loss or increase in response time

going thru sunrocket is like making an internet web connection. no SIP for voip packets.. its treated like yer web browsing.

guyver......

Referring to #2........I have literally tried EVERYTHING!!!

Last night this was escalated to a conference between Sunrocket and Verizon.

Everything is perfect. Cables, coax, computer, modem, ATA, router, no wall sockets are not used, cable signal levels are beyond perfect, only specific phone #'s are causing the problem.

Tonight (interestingly enough) I called my cell phone for shiggles & pops were there. Now, I'm on Verizon wireless. My wife's girlfriend happened to come over. I used HER VZW phone and called it from my home phone......pops were NOT there.

WTF????

If her phone is the same area code, wireless service.....why wouldn't I hear the popping on hers?? That one reeeeeeeeeeally threw me.

I assume the same cell phones under the same service in the same house would pull from the same tower?? Could the phone calls still be routed differently that hers wouldn't have the pops??
