ATTN TACUBE : Dynamic IP keeps changing .. stats getting posted to other host?

Question,

My work IP keeps changing, way to often to bother RUSS of TACUBE to keep adding new ones to my stats. If I kill all my clients and re-sign on with new email, my own rather than rc5@tacube, will I be able to join tacube team after re-initializing all of my sub-herd with my new email? This way they'll all be under me for sure? Too new at this and no time tonight to lurk for answers. Going to have access to the machines tonight so I want to make changes ASAP so as not to lose any more stats. Any help is much appreciated.

I'm not sure. 😱 I'm just a home user on a dial-up connection. Please wait for Russ' answer before you do anything.

Same thing happened to me. I changed from rc5@tacube to my own e-mail. Still using tacube proxy.

Here's how.

1. First change e-mail addresses in your clients. Flush some work to the proxy. Wait for daily update at distributed net.

2. You'll have to go to distributed net and get your id and password and then join TeamAnandTech. Go here and search for your e-mail address under the Participant Stats section. At the bottom is a button that says "Email me my password" or something like that.

3. Wait paitently for password to arrive. That parts not too hard.

4. Go to the general rc5 distributed net stats page as linked above. Search under the Teams section for AnandTech. There are two so watch out (one with like 100 blocks! 🙂 ) pick the one ranked #2!! Down on this page should be a button that says something like "I want to join this team". You'll have to enter your dnet id and password.

You should be good to go.

You'll be able to see your stats on the TaCube site under your e-mail address. Tracking by host will still be the same mess you have now. Same thing I have when I need to reboot my DSL Router/Modem.

edit: I kinda stumbled upon this page which looks like a general TeamAnandtech site, which doesn't have a link from the www.teamanandtech.com site (that I could find, which I think is odd). It actually has general stats consolidated from distributed net.

I have found it useful, because my work computer can't connect to tacube. It sends to the general teamanandtech proxy. The site brings together all my rc5 stuff (since changing to my own e-mail). Check it out.

Anyone know who runs this site? And if they mind vagrants like me sucking some bandwith every now and then?

H'mm,

Don't want to leave tacube though. So I am assuming I cant have my own email address and still be within tacube, I'll just be within the Overall Team Anandtech then? This does not bode well, since I still consider meself as on of Denni's "herd". I guess I'll just wait to see what Russ can say.

gn for now,

oneye--TA Cube is a "participant" in Dnet's vernacular and if you don't use their email addy they won't get your blocks. Team Anandtech will if you follow the process drewski described (joining TA as a participant). The Cube is already a Team member so crackin' under that email addy will automatically mean the blocks are counted for the team. It's possible Russ may be able to work some magic with your IP, depends how much it varies.

drewski--I think that is Dale's stats page, I'm sure he'll be pleased people are getting some enjoyment out of his labor! 😀

oneye,

Jim is correct. If you change the eMail address, you would be solo and no longer TA Cube. The eMail address is the only identifier that Dnet uses to track stats; IP addresses don't matter to them.

If you want to stay in The Collective, just drop me a line whenever the IP address changes.

Also, the way I have it setup, the consolidation script runs automatically only twice a day. Once in the AM, once in the PM. What that means is that if you come in from the same subnet, but a different fourth octet, in between those times it will show as the old host name until after the script runs.

If it changes further back then the last octet, then just let me know and I can add a new subnet to the script.

One other thing to consider is that if your dynamic IP is on the private side of a network, the TACube pproxy will never see that IP address, it will see the public IP of whatever you use to gain access to the rest of the world. I have about 125 computers that the pproxy sees as one of my public ip addresses. I have the private side of my network using DHCP so the can change, but it doesn't affect the pproxy for TACube.

H'mm,

Appreciate all the help here guys, especiially the time its takin Russ to make all these changes to keep those stats under me. I just felt uneasy asking Russ to make all these changes due to a failure on my part to be able to keep a static IP.

I've left the herd as be, and will work on learning MAC OS X tonight to ad a g4-500 duallie and another g4-533 tonight. Back to commmand prompt I go.

you could always setup a private PProxy on one of your computers at home just for your herd, have all the clients flush to that one, and then flush that PProxy to Russ's PProxy. Just an idea 😀
