Without even having the board I would use the VIA integrated SATA controller. This ia because the controller can tap directly into the Northbridge-Southbridge interconnect and not be hindered by the PCI bus. Which is what the Promise is on.
 
good point. my only concern is Via's lack of positive 'reputation' or any reputation @ all for building granite stable raid controllers...
