Attn: Kanji Readers / Also - TATTOO questions! **UPDATE: GOT INKED!!**

I'm getting my middle name tattooed on my back tomorrow. I ordered the image from Kanjigraphy who created a custom made calligraphy version of the character.

Here is the Kanji
Requested word: "Ei"
Definition: "flourish, prosper, thrive, be prosperous, glory, honor, splendor, fame, distinction
Pronunciation: "EI, saka(eru), ha(e), -ba(e), ha(eru), e"

So my question is to anyone who reads asian characters, how does it look? I don't know how to rate the quality of calligraphy; I was hoping someone would know.
In any case it looks a hell of a lot better than the computer generated font crap that I see people sticking on themselves.
And at least it's my actual birthright to have this character 🙂

(And for any of you anti-tattoo people out there, keep your flames to yourself; this tat is for me and myself only. It's going in the middle of my back where no one will see it unless I want them to.)

Also for anyone with tattoos
I'm aware that this may hurt. A lot. Especially since it's going in the middle of my back over my spine. Any comments/suggestions to help me out?
Any post-tattoo tips care tips would be appreciated too.

UPDATE! Got my tattoo!
I enjoy disfiguring my body.

It hurt like a BITCH. Only took 20 minutes though. They did a pretty good job IMO.

Looks quite good. Brush strokes are correct, and it is balanced, but without the rigid positioning of strokes that you see in computer fonts.

Yes it hurts in that location. I know from experience. Breathe deeply. Maybe bring something like those hand excercise things. As for care, A&D ointment is good. You can also usually buy some creme made for tats at the shop. They should also have a list for you on the care.

Is there some kind of hidden meaning to this, because to me I think it's a pretty sh!tty tattoo.

Well, I have over $2500.00 worth of tattoos, so I will offer this advice for you:

This is some great stuff I have used on my last four tattoos Tattoo Goo

If you use this just keep using it for about 10-14 days.

If you want to go the traditional route, use this Polysporin

Follow up the antibiotic ointment with my favorite "lotion" Udderly Smooth
This stuff is amazing at keeping a tattoo from scabbing over.

Remember when using lotions after your tattoo starts to heal Aloe bad for healing tattoos!

You don't tell someone that just got a tattoo of something that it looks like sh!t. It might not be for everyone, but that is pretty rude.

AndyHui, what is that word in Chinese? I can't make anything out of it?

Mine is getting pretty rusty too. What is it again? Phoenetically please 🙂

im pretty sure its japanese.

Out of Kanji, Katakana and Hiragana, Kanji is borrowed/stolen from Chinese. It is Chinese 🙂

You would be correct if you don't recognise it. It's not a Chinese word. It's Japanese Kanji (shinji) exclusive.

"Ei" it is in Japanese, which is an evolution of the word Chinese "wing", meaning Bright, Glory or Honour.

Living Proof

Looks like a hairy guy. Though it's weird, his forearms are really hairy but his upper arms aren't.

That "hairy guy" is me

and yeah, my forearms are hairy (not quite the extent of robin williams), and i grow a fast beard, and have chest hair, but no back hair or anything disgusting.

and i don't care what the mods say, my palms are NOT hairy.

[edit] amnesiac 2.0 hope you don't think i'm trying to hijack your thread or anything.... yer tat looks good, but i'm tellin' ya, it won't be yer last [/edit]

No hairy palms here either.
