I hope they keep around the H3 though. Not a better stock offroad vehicle existing in mass production.
Jeep Wrangler Rubicon.

Nothing in stock form can follow it off road.

Mercedes-Benz Unimog, ends the discussion of best stock offroad vehicles.

The Hummer is fat and overweight, it can excel in certain areas and horrible in others. The Jeep being light can excel in the opposite.

Everything has downsides, except the Unimog. Greatest STOCK ever

Leave it to zee Germans to design the most capable of everything.

I always wanted a Pinzgauer

When I worked at a home improvment warehouse I remember that some guy who had a H2 wanted us to put a whole unit of 3/4 plywood on the roof of it. He said oh it's a strong truck it can take it.

The Unimog is fat and overweight too. Curb weight on a 404 S is over 6,000 lbs, IIRC. I'd hate to see one sunk to it's axles in muck. It would be interesting trying to get it free.

Also to consider though is the epically huge stock tire size on the Mogs. They are fairly well proportioned to the size of the vehicle, and the combination of insane ground clearance and huge tire diameter makes it about as unlikely (but still very possible) to ground-hug as a Rubicon.

I've seen Unimogs on the trail and they are insane!!!
Their crawl ratio is unbelievable.

Rubicons are the best off road vehicles you can buy in the US brand new.

But because of teh tires and portal axles it can go more places than most people would think to try. It also is alot of driver skill. Look how many morons can't drive in teh winter in FWD cars, imagine putting them in RWD.

You will be sorely missed by the men who need to compensate.

Most were driven by soccer moms.

Mahaha the stupid rich ones 😛 They all think that the bigger the safer. Its all about engineering man !! About time they stopped the friggin h2.

About time. The H2 wasn't a very good vehicle by any standards even as an offroader. The H1 on the other hand...well.... thats another story.

Well, almost inarguably, the Suburban can be very practical for those who need it (IE; live in an area with bad roads, have 6 kids, or whatever). As for how many people buy Suburbans who have a frequent need for all the rows of seating, storage, and towing capacity, IDK. Most Suburban and other SUV owners would be better off with Minivans (safety, fuel economy, ergonomics).
Indeed, I have friends who are on the Ski Patrol, and the Suburban with snow tires is a great way of getting 6 patrollers pretty far down some bad roads. Or towing ALL of the rafts and gear for a big whitewater trip. Or hauling peoples' stuff to their apartment.
For day-to-day use, of course, they have a sedan. They have a trailer for it, to, for dump runs and other mundane tasks that don't merit a monster like the Suburban.

Considering that its "axles" are a fair distance above the center of the tire, than I agree that it would be stuck indeed.

Having ridden in a Unimog that was forging through washed-out muddy jungle roads that even the Ecuadorian bus drivers wouldn't touch (and those buses go EVERYWHERE), I have to say that it's an incredible vehicle.

RIP

Nice Yukon.

I know, it's great isn't it? It performed awesome when Katrina hit. My father's company was one of the first responders so as to help minimize the water damage to some of the commercial buildings. We could make it around pretty nicely down there without too much of an issue, and carry all the guys working with us too. The F-250's we own are crew cab/long bed and could only get so close with the trailers (which we weren't leaving around on their own anywhere), so we'd load the Hummer up with what we needed and go to work.

The rest of it's days have been spent hauling family around, carrying pee-wee football team's equipment, and towing our old boat. Still consider it an excellent purchase, we drive it little enough the gas mileage isn't an issue, and the few times when we drive long distance we're getting paid to do it so it doesn't matter.
