Alright, so my company and their partner in crime really, really love me. So much so, that they gave me a gift certificate to their other partner in crime. I managed to snag $500 for pimping their products.
I just found out about it this morning and was fairly shocked by it all. So, I spent all day fairly drooling over their ad. I decided I wanted a home theater system. I remembered a fewcomments about how Yamaha was better than Sony in many respects.
So, rather than buy the first thing listed on their front page ad , I went and got the Yamaha HTR-5540 coupled with the JBL SCS135SI speakers for ~$500.
This was an impulse buy. I knew I wanted one and sorta knew what brand I wanted.
But now I've been looking at the 5550 receiver and noticed all the optical/S-Video inputs/outputs that it has over the 5540. And near as I can tell by comparing the two, that seems to be the only difference. But it is a large difference, I think.
Basically, my question for everyone is, did I do a good thing? This is my first ever home theater solution. I currently have a digital cable box with optical-out, an X-Box that has optical out, and eventually plan on getting a dedicated DVD player and using the optical out on it as well as all the S-Video connections. I have a so-so Philips-Magnavox 27" PiP TV that works for me but will down the road be upgraded. As far as I understand things, I should be able to leave the television on the S-Video input and only switch inputs on the reciever, correct?
With all of equipment that I have now, should I go back and exchange the reciever for the 5550 model and pay the difference?
Help me ATOT, you're my only hope!
