Well if anyone have any answer, it would help also.

Anyway, i'm looking to get the bushmaster M4/Colt's AR-15.

The problem is that i live in jersey.

and the law said that you cannot have any weapons that look military (all bushmaster rifles, all Colts AR)

Now i know that people do own them in jersey. how do they do it?

no, they get it from outside jersey, hunting trip probably, and they bring it back in, hopefully without getting searched. or they have connections to get said weapon.

It is a retarded government that bases legislation on the looks of the items that the legislation concerns. There was one Mossberg shotgun that was banned entirely based on its looks.

People might also have a Federal Firearms License (FFL, the one that allows you to own automatic weapons). Might trump the state law, but I don't know specifically.

The best thing to do is go down to a gunshop or shooting range and ask the fellas down there what they can do for you to get you one. Owning a gun illegally is NOT something you want to do. Trust me, I'm just ITCHIN to own a few firearms which I could build from kits, but the subsequent midnight slaughtering in bed I would recieve from the BATF isnt worth it. And if they dont decide to plug me full of holes, I'd be looking at 10 years minimum if I remember correctly.
Its NOT worth it to own one illegally. Your better off moving to a gun friendly state.

Anyways, check your local gunstore or shooting range. Those guys will know for sure. I dont seeing as I dont live in Jersey (That reason being one of them. Kansas is bad enough)

I didn't realize that's the law in NJ. That's so idiotic.

Edit: I bought a rifle at a gun store in Indiana where I wasn't technically a resident. All I needed was my NJ driver's license. I'm pretty sure I could have bought any long gun that way. To buy a handgun you need an Indiana ID, which my friend was able to get by showing his Connecticut driver's license.

go to VT, take a trip, we have nice lakes to swim in this time of year, no pollution.

In VT, there are practically no gun laws. I can sell you a gun like I can sell you a shovel. Don't ask me, I don't own any. But it's absurd up here, you can walk down the street with two six-shooters and bandaleros of ammo covering your body and it's legal. What do you expect from the state that has no criminal threat law, so if you run into a cop, remember to threaten to murder him, his family and everybody he knows, because they can't do sh!t.

Ahh, the stories we hear in VT and people with guns. The best one was that a guy had an assault rifle in the back of his Jeep, the kind with a collapsable stock so he thought it was illegal. One day he wrecked his jeep in a field and threw his gun off into the bushes. Cops show up and deal with the accident. A couple weeks later, the cops call him up cuz they found his gun, he tells them he thought it was illegal. They tell him nope, and he can have it back.

VT is the only state where the cops will find your assault rifle in the bushes and call you up to give it back!

I don't know New Jersey Law, but what you may be seeing are "preban" rifles. Rifles that were sold before the ban took effect, and are grandfathered in. They may be transferrable, but like I said I don't know the law in your state. Go to a firearms dealer and ask, is probably the best advice.

You could get an SKS based on that. Fine firearms, and I would venture to say reloading with stripper clips is as fast as chaning mags. The 10 round built in mag would be fine.

K1052 beat me. NJ is definitely in the top five of Draconian Gun Law states.
but its not that hard to have an out of state friend order you a gun to pick up on the next family camping(hunting) trip
You would be violating a number of state and federal laws if you did that.

K10 - You looking forward to that heavy barrel kit?

Here in Canada I can own anything off that list as long as it is semi-automatic and barrel greater than 18.5 inches.
So much for our draconian laws eh? seems you got it tougher there
Handguns and some of the shorter other stuff you have to get a restricted licence of which I'm going through now, but its not that tough of an exam bout the same as a drivers licence.

Although, some of the rules are just stupid I can own a 9 mm Glock but I can't own a .25 caliber revolver?? or a handgun with a barrel shorter than 4''

The people who own banned weapons may have purchased them prior to the law taking effect. I own 4 17 round Glock magazines I bought in 1994 before the Clinton ban took effect. It is not illegal to own them, just illegal for Glock to make and sell new ones except to Police departments.

Didn't California ban the private ownership of high capacity magazines completely?

umm it's completly legal to build your own guy as long as you're compliant with the AWB rules (ie count the "evil factors" accordingly).

As far as the jersey thing goes, i had no idea the law was soo strict. I hope soccermoms there sleep safter now that instead of getting a .223 bushmaster you have a to get a 7mm elephant rifle...
