ATTN: Golfers!

Almost golf season, as soon as the snow clears 🙂

I'm heading down to South Carolina (also doing a little college visiting along the way) to stay with my grand 'rents and to play some golf with the grandfather. He is really good--especially considering his age, shoots around the 70's.

I shoot about the same thing. Hopefully my first few games won't be THAT bad. 🙂

So what about you? Anyone else psyched to play some golf?! 🙂 Anyone really good? As well, what clubs do you have? I'm thinking about getting some new clubs. I have a decent set of Orbiters, company that is actually from way up here in Maine 🙂 Anyone have some suggestions? Don't want to go over 300, and I don't need a driver or woods. Just a good set of irons

I just went to the range 2 times in the last week. I couldn't hit my irons for my life but was pounding the woods nice though. I shoot in the low 90s. Hopefully, I'll be able to get out next week and play (if the wifey allows me).

The weather here in Connecticut can't decide if it's spring or winter. Been out a couple of times for 9 holes each so far, but it's like once a week. It goes from rain to cold to flurries, back to rain, one decent day, back to cold and windy, more rain, more flurries, one more good day, etc. I'm starting to get cabin fever after this winter, it needs to get warm and stay that way.

What clubs to I play?
Newish Taylormade 300 driver with a Grafalloy ProLite35 X shaft
Very old Ram 3 wood (real wood) with a Rifle 7.0 shaft
1-PW Wilson Staff Fg-51 irons (circa 1992 or so) with brand-new Rifle Flighted 6.5 shafts
Cleveland 588RTG sand wedge 56 degrees
Ping Pal2 putter

The driver is the only club in my bag that's less than 5 years old. I'm not too much of an equipment junky, I try to find answers on the range, not on the racks in the golf shop. Mostly I like to tinker with different shafts, grips, lofts and lies.

Hmmm, good set of irons under $300 limits your options a little. Most sets these days are $600 and up. I'd suggest Tommy Armour 845's for anyone looking for irons in that range. They're easy enough for a beginner to hit, but a high quality and high performance enough to impress a low handicapper. They're THE top club available under $400. If you don't like them for some reason, check out the TopFlite Tour irons, another easy to hit, high quality club for around $300 a set. That's new from a pro shop. If you wanted to risk Ebay you could move up the line and get a very lightly used set of $500 clubs for around $300

I had a set of Tommy Armour 845s Oversized and liked them alot. Unfortunately, they were the first set I got and I beat them pretty good for 5 years before I got my new set. They are not very forgiving though. But since you guys are much lower handicap than me, it probably won't be that big a deal.

Ahhh, I remember the weather in Connecticut, sucks for golf. Here in Arkansas I can almost play golf year-round. It's great and a hell of a lot less expensive!😀

live in sunny so. cal...golfing all year 'round baby!!!!

i say the BEST CLUBS are either pings that u modify yourself (to match you..or u can send in ur dimentions and angles u want) ...or those modified clubs some companies have like Henry Griffiths.......

i have custom ping-eyes....i love 'em! they're a relic from the very early 90's....and they still hit like a charm....steel shafted 'em..they're custom to fit my swing and height and stance.....had a pro instructor help me out w/ those measurements.....the ping eye's i got 'em used for like 200 bucks....a STEAL....and then customized for like another 100.......300 and they're only for me.....

nothing beats custom fit...all that bull from other clubs companies are stupid....

as for woods....i have the biggest big bertha 9 deg....callaway 3wood warbird, and a old beat up taylor-made 5 wood that does me good for those rolling shots....

I haven't touched my clubs since Dec. 🙁 Damn school and work getting in the way of my golfing.....

I got custom sized clubs for me, went to Golfsmith one day and had my irons fitted for me. I ended up with the XPC 3 for me, and got some comfortable grips. It has felt like it really helped out a lot by going to those clubs. Even after years of being in the 115+, it has come down to the 100-109 range.

The price was about $280 for me. 3-9 and PW.
