Ok, I finally have enough money for my K110D body (pentax). I was not planning on purchasing the kit lens, rather something like this:

Will that lens work fine with the DSLR I've chosen? I understand it is manual focus - that is fine for now. Any other caveats? Can you get in close with this lens? Ala pseudo macro?

it will work, for manul you will have to set the exposure in M mode by pressing AEL button, since its manual you will have to set the aperture using aperture ring. The kit lens is pretty decent for the price. Also I would recommend getting the k100d, the SR is pretty useful

Actually I think you might be out of luck with that lens. From that eBay auction:

From the Pentax K110D specs sheet:

Lens Mount

Type - PENTAX KAF mount compatible with PENTAX KAF2, KAF and KA mount lenses
Power zoom function - Not available
K-mount lenses - usable with restrictions
S-mount lenses - usable with adapter and restrictions
67/645 lenses - usable with adapter and restrictions

Maybe it is compatible - someone with a better knowledge of Pentax cameras might know. At the outset it looks incompatible though.

no, its basically a K mount lens with manul control for setting aperture.

How much are you spending on the K110D? Why not hold out for the K10D instead? I think that would provide better use and longevity in terms of the actual technology. It's pretty rugged according to reviews. Plus a more matured sensor. Worth up to a $300 difference, imo.
