I found a penny that appears to have been pressed too hard, or something of that sort. It looks squished in on the front, and the back looks like part of it is peeling off.
How do I go about figuring out the value of it? Just take it to a collector's shop somewhere local?
Would it be wise or advisable to post pics of it here? Am I stupid for even asking? :)

mint errors with recent dates aren't worth a whole lot. Look on ebay for an idea, usually sub $10 value.

He probably found one of those penny's that you can stick in a machine at Six flags and it will flatten it out for you....lol.

Well odd stuff like that is worth something to some one. One mans junk is anothers treasure. Stick it on eblay and see what it will fetch. If its more then a penny and your fees to make the auction you made out ok :D

Oh man! It's an octagon shaped penny! That thing will probably be worth millions!

The picture doesn't show depth properly. Note on the front side though, the coin was pressed extra hard. The "L" in Liberty is not visible. "In God We Trust" is almost completely gone. This looks like a stamping error at the mint, possibly a broadstrike.

Nice photos. I can't tell you what happened to it, but I can guarantee it wasn't made that way - it was damaged after it left the Mint.

You can tell because the lettering along the rim is partially obscured. If the coin was made that way, the rim could not be on top of the lettering. It would not have any value to a collector.

It looks like a penny someone used as a fuse a while back and somehow got back into circulation.
