In a project to be completed by July 31, the majority of existing Sympatico High Speed customers in Ontario and Quebec will get increased download speeds up to 1.5 megabits per second (up from 1 Mbps) and accelerated upload speeds, which are doubled from 160 Kbps to 320 Kbps.

Sympatico will also eliminate its controversial limits on how much subscribers can upload and download from the Internet, limitations often called "bit caps." After July 4, both High Speed and Ultra customers will not incur additional charges for bandwidth usage.

Thought you guys may want to see this... :)

I've never been over the caps, but it's nice to know I don't have to worry about it.

Rogers never did start imposing caps did they? They're the ones who started it all.

Wow, that's quite something isn't it. I live in Eastern Canada where we don't have caps now anyways, but it's good to see we shouldn't be getting them.

i switched from sympatico to Golden because of their caps and high prices.

How much will the regular service cost now without modem rental? if its 35 or less, I should think about switching.

$34.95 for 1500/320 when you own your modem.

Heh... I predicted that those "bit caps" would fail. Good news for Canadians! :)

Dang. I pay 34.99 for 1000/160 with my own modem. I think I can switch as early as next month :)

I'll be switching back to their Ultra service in September.

The bit caps pi$$ed me off so much I went elsewhere in spite of the fact that I work for Bell.

Where can you purchase a cable modem? I think the one I have is a rental from Rogers, and it's a crappy LANcity at that.

Yeah, I heard of the bandwidth cap removal and the speed upgrades a while ago... but I had already switched to Golden.net. Still cheaper anyway since I have my own modem. Glad to hear they're removing the bandwidth caps though... and I still haven't recieved the speed upgrade yet but the date on which all the upgrades should be done by is July 30th..

anyone in the 416-5xx-xxxx area upgraded yet?

Ah well, I like my Shaw cable. 1.6mbps down, 300kbps up, which is a lot more than most people around me can say.
