Those sidebar gadgets take up a good amount of CPU resources themselves though. Samurize can monitor ANYTHING you want, at nearly zero CPU - the only problem is, you've got to design the meter yourself.

I don't find them too obtrusive. My Sidebar and gadgets only take about 2% of my cpu time.

2% is still a lot for what its actually doing. Also, those sidebar apps use WMI, which by itself soaks up quite a bit more CPU time.

This is my samurize config: http://pics.bbzzdd.com/users/bd2003/samurize.jpg

Two CPU meters, a CPU graph, a RAM/Cache Meter, Readyboost meter, uptime meter, Upload/DL meter, and a separate meter for all my drive, which include bars for showing how much theyre being accessed....All of that takes up 0.2% CPU time. 10 times the info for 10 times less a perf hit.

Sidebar is good for quick and easy gadgets that look nice, such as weather/stocks/RSS, but for a system monitor, the costs outweigh the benefits IMO.

That looks pretty cool. I like having having the stuff in the sidebar, but I'll give Samurize a look see.
