I am looking for a new bike for myself and my husband. We want to spend around 350-400 per bike. We were going to look around here today and see what they have. Any recommendations? We don't know anything about bikes, but we want to get rid of our old ones (I have an old men's specialized hardrock and my husband has a taget bike) and get some new mountain bikes so that we could bike by the lake more.

here as well - these seem like a better deal. Does it really matter if we get a 2003 bike?

Any help would be appreciated!

:)

Of the bikes listed, I would go for the 02 Specialized Rockhopper
MSRP $650.00
Now $389.99

Though I AM a Haro Fanboy as a rule.

BTW: Haro is #3 in sales in the USA! :)

Don't get mountain bikes if you plan to ride on pavenment 90% of the time. I don't know what "by the lake" means. If it's off-road, then mountain bikes are suitable, but if it's a bike path that goes around a lake, you'd be better off with a road or hybrid bike.

Yep, I have a Trek 7500, and the daughter has a 7300, which I think is a nice enough ride. Look into that.

Thanks for the input! Since I mainly do (concrete bike path) riding by the lake, I went with the TREK hybrid 7100 in the parchement green/gold.

My husband went with the TREK 4300 in the orange/grey. We got home late last night (this morning) so we will try them out tonight :)
