This is just a note for anyone else with the Asus V7700 GeForce-line cards possibly experiencing crashes/instability issues with 98SE.
A while back I started to notice that my system was crashing upon almost every cold start -- it would take a couple reboots before it started to get some sort of stability. There were also constant crashes in WMP7. I figured 98SE had just corrupted and I needed to do a clean reinstall. After a clean reinstall, I still had the same issues. In fact, now I was getting BSODs where I never had them before. I still don't know what changed from before I started seeing these issues.
Some of the crashes were consistent -- certain links with IE 5.5, WindowsUpdate crashes. Some of them were not consistent -- random window closings, WMI faults, Explorer crashes.
In any case, it's been about an hour since I removed AnvShell (the Asus control setup) of the 5.33a version of the V7700 drivers from my startup, and I haven't crashed (yet).
IE can follow the links it previously crashed on, and I haven't seen any other strange errors as of yet. I'll update this message tonight, hopefully, if it helps anyone.
