Need your help to see if it's just my computer here, but when I run any of the Geforce3/4 demos from nVidia's site (the Tide Pool especially) I get a LOT of static.
I'm running a Geforce4 Ti4200 at default speed, and a Shuttle AK35GTR; Win98SE, latest drivers for video and sound.

Maybe it's a lactency issue? If your videocard is being pushed to it's brink, and it's got a super high lactency, it might be stealing time from the pci soundcard. It might be worth it to download powerstrip and mess around with those settings.

I doubt that it's a latency issue, but it might be possible. I used to get a LOT of static in CS when more than one shot was fired (which doesn't happen a lot). Reducing the latencies of the videocard and the soundchip to 0 almost eliminated it. Increasing the latencies only worsens static then. I'm getting the idea that the 8738 just isn't too great at producing quality sound - if I enable A3D in any program, it generates static. That never happened with my Vortex2 card; I abandoned that because of Aureal's death and lack of driver updates.
