I recently discovered a cool program Intelliremote for Creative Soundblaster X-Fi soundcards with the Front bay io drive. It allows you to remap keys that useless X-Fi remote to do what ever, like turn the PC off, go to hibernate, start a program, execute a script, etc. The software includes plugins for iTunes, Winamp, MediaPortal, SesamTV, Foobar2000, BSPlayer, VLC, GOM Player, Media Player Classic, Zoomplayer, and more.

It also allows you to use a remote code from a non-creative remote like the one from my Old Onkyo Integra RC-586M, thus making system integration and life much simpler since that remote already controls the TV and PC audio receiver in my computer room. This is great, I can now plug my AKG-K702 headphones in the rear for better sound quality (VS lower quality dac in I/O panel) and still have the ability to control volume with out a rheostat or potentiometer cutting in to the signal.

If you have lost your old creative remote and wish for replacement, this program is for you since you can use any old remote you have lying around your home.

This is great for HTPC use. You can use that old remote to start your web browser, start WinDVD, shut the computer off, check email, read RSS, navigate iTUNES, use the remote joystick to control a mouse cursor, and more using an IR remote.

will this work with the usb remotes ?

It only works with Creative X-Fi remotes. If the USB remote is made by Creative Labs, then it may work. If you want a remote for a pc and aren't crafty enough to make your own, depending on your version of windows I would suggest using a Media Center Remote.

Turns out, the software has a set expriation date. This is trialware, however I encourage users to give it a shot and share your creative (no pun intended) uses for your useless X-Fi remote in this thread.
