I need to find out wether the Motorola T6400 model using the GMRS, is valid or not in the U.K. and surrounding countries. I'm going to be taking a trip sometime soon with my family and using a few of these is pretty useful. If you must k now why I want to check on this, it is because if I remember correctly, some countries have certain frequencies or something related with it that are allowed and not allowed. I don't want to take any chances especially during times like this with war.

from www.two-way-radio.org.uk

F.R.S. is an American standard for license-free radios for sale to the general public. Family Radio Service walkie-talkies have 14 channels, use UHF frequencies and have a legally-limited transmission power of 500mW. FRS radios are not legal for use in the UK and Europe - only in the USA. Users requiring FRS type radios for use in Great Britain or Europe should choose PMR446 radios as described below. We advise against the use of Family Radio Service walkie-talkies in the United Kingdom.

as I understand it, GMRS and FRS are basically the same thing for what you want to use your radios for.

The GMRS band is very close to that used by PSBR (personal small business radio) - a premium version of PMR (personal mobile radio) requiring a licence fee. This service is very shortly to become defunct, licenses withdrawn and it will become illegal to use PSBR equipment.

However, the radio spectrum around 460 MHz is very busy - with aviation, long-range pager, home office (specifically coastguard and ship-to-shore radio), and medical telemetry bands very close by (some of which are overlapped by specific GMRS channels).

In short the use of GMRS equipment is not permitted - and you may well get noticed if you do use it.
