I have WinXP Pro. Everything with my System seems to running fine. I have an Epox 8RDA+, 1024megs PC3200 Corsair XMS memory, 80Gig Maxtor 7200rpm HD (8meg cache), Geforce4 4800 SE, Cheiftec Blue case with 450watt PS, Zip 250.

However, I get this message at bootup at the end of the boot sequence: "Floppy disk(s) (or Drive(s)) fail (40)" Then I have to hit "F1" everytime to continue, and it is really getting annoying. The funny thing is, my floppy drive seems to be working just fine. It detects correctly in windows...

Any input on this matter???

unplug the fdd and disable in the BIOS and turn off seek on boot as well if you do not need it..I had a mobo with physical damage (newegg refurb ..

) ..ran fine otherwise..check the cable for proper orientation as well if you really need the fdd

You may also want to check the boot order preferences in the bios. Maybe the floppy is set to a higher preference. Try setting your HD to the highest preference and see if it still comes.

i had the same problem on my ausu a7n8x. i don't even have a floppy, so i just disabled it in the bois. doesn't look for it and doesn't error out. or you can change the "Halt on" settings if you have it. on my mobo, i can halt on all errors, keyboard/mice only errrors, or system errors or something tot he similar.

EDIT: but it is certianly in the mobo bois.

What do you mean by proper orientation? I have the floppy cable connected correctly. No doubt about it.

Also, under which BIOS setting to I go again to configure the boot sequence and floppy drive?

It may seem correct but it may not be. Sometiems you have to knock off a piece of pcb on the lower side of the fdd to fit the connector (the extra nub is on the bottom on my friend's box).

He had the 40 problem till we cut a pcb and flipped the connector.

if the light at the front of the floppy drive stays on continously then you need to flip the cable at the floppy drive side!
