I completely agree, I let my subconscious do the work of finding them attractive or not. I worry more about their voice, intelligence, how they act, can I stand their overall personality and how they react to my comments, etc.

In the end I am not looking for a trophy, I am looking for a long term relationship with a personality that won't drive me up the god damn wall and will always be there when I need them.

I am not saying looks are not important, but I very much realize there is much more than what you see on the outside.

You read the stat wrong, it did not say 1/2 of American women are obese. Total US population ~ 300 million and about 1/2 of that are women or about 150 million. The article stated 190 million are fat and that included ALL males and females.
