I just discovered a cool new trick. I know that many decent course sell yardage books with pictures and diagrams of holes with yardages...which comes in handy when you play a new course. They generally run about $7-15. You can save that money, and also get a cool "head start" on a new course that you may be playing by using Google Satellite Images!

For example: I'm playing some course called Hampshire Greens in MD which I have never played. I look up their address on Google and get this:
Google Maps

Then you click on Satellite and zoom in. You can get a decent picture of how the hole goes, and how far the bunkers are away, etc, by using the scale located on the bottom left hand corner. When I get bored at home tonight, I'll make my own yardage book with these pictures. This will not give you detailed yardages, but I really don't need to know how many yards the hole is cut from the edge of a tier and crap like that. I just want to know how far I have to carry it to clear a hazzard, or how far the bunkers are away from the tee box.

I hope this helps. :)

haha awesome dude! you know whats funny? i think I'm playing at Hampshire Greens on Sunday :p. I might be playing at Northwest though, but not sure. Either way, my new driver shipped this morning at 3:34am from the fedex delivery in NC, and I REALLY REALLY hope its at the fedex station here in Beltsville, MD before I leave work so that I can stop by and pick it up, since I'm going to the range tonight :)

my friend has his own business, doing work on swimming pools

i told him about maps.google satellite and he wants to use it to find new customers, ie find people with swimming pools to advertise to, like mail them a letter letting them know he is new in the area and does pool work

you can also use those maps to rob a bank and plan out your escape route.

The time spent doing that would be better spent at the driving range...

WOW! You have almost 20,000 posts. That's incredible. I'm not really big on the Driving Range. I used to practice alot, but found that it only tears up my hands to go out and pound balls ever other day. I now go about once every two weeks or less. I game has gone down the crapper, but I attribute that more to not playing as much rather than not going to the range. I'm sure that if I really dedicated myself back to my golf game, I can probably get back to 4-5 handicap...but I'm getting quite lazy in my old age. :p

Done that a few times for some golf courses that I play..is pretty interesting.

But if the course was just changed the sat. image may be out of date.

I rarely play and never get to the driving range (none near me). I am positive that is why my game blows... :(

Cute trick. Unfortunately in my area they don't have the resolution to make it useful. Nice pics of Augusta National though.
