Can somebody tell me why the term "badge" is used? I always just called them case stickers. Badge sounds stupid to me, like it is trying to sound cool.

When you reach full maturity you will no longer view things from a cool vs uncool perspective....I promise!
Definition of badge now just supplement attached to case with adhesive for pinned or sewn to your clothing and you'll find the usage is correct by definition
