Attention Centrino users: i855PM chipset and PC2700

I see several reviews and user comments where they are using PC2700 in the system even though the Pentium M is a 400FSB unit. Realistically this means PC1600 would suffice since the cpu runs natively @ 100MHz x 4. The i855PM datasheet shows DDR200/266/333 support, and on page 12 it lists a 3:4 synchronous setting when using PC2100 & 3:5 synchronous w/ PC2700. How is a 3:4 or 3:5 setting synchronous?

I can only assume that it would be up the the notebook vendor to put a "synchronous" memory setting in the bios, or it is done automatically depending on the memory used.

I wonder what kind of performance increase PC2100/2700 will ultimately have.

If you have a Centrino notebook, could you please check your bios for an asynchronous/synchronous memory setting and post your results (make, model, etc).

my dell inspiron 600m says "640mb @ 266mhz" in the bios. sisoft sandra says it's synchronous. my laptop info is in my sig. hope this helps.
