I have been planning a Valentine?s weekend getaway for the wife and I as a surprise. She knows something is up and roughly where we are going because she gave me some restaurant names and places of interest to visit near the inn we will be staying at.

The question I have is this. How many dozen roses does it take to overwhelm a woman?

I would like to have them in the room before we arrival and I know the inn would assist me in the endeavor so I just need a idea how many to get.

Link to Inn, we will be staying in the Magnolia Room.

Update: The local flower shop is getting $75.00 a dozen for roses in a vase, I could save $5 a additional dozen by combining them in the same vase up to three dozen.

So if I were to do the eleven dozen some of you recommended than the cost would be about $790.

If I were to limit to three-dozen or less it would be $215 or less.

New question: How many roses would it take for the aroma to fill an 800-sqft room?

How many years have you been married? That many. (And since a dozen is twelve, get an extra amount of roses to add in the months)

Meh... if you really want to suprise her, bring along a female friend or coworker into the bed room. Most probably will be the most memorable Valentine's ever. (Or you can do the mundaine thing and fly over to a warmer climate region, cheaply and relax for a weekend)

:p ;)

We have been married for eleven years, so are you recommending eleven dozen or 132 dozen?

As romantic as I am.. i cant see wasting a bunch of money on more than a dozen roses. They are just outrageously priced for vday.

BUT, if you do go through with roses... i would say 1 dozen for each year maybe? if its not too many years ofcourse....

near valentines, roses run about 100 dollars per dozen, at least here. I think 1 dozen for each year at any other time is good. but near valentines is perhaps a bit much.

11 dozen, though price may be a hindering factor with that amount.

if you want an alternative, you can always cover the area with rose petals and candles. i've found that the dozen roses and multiples of such are too ordinary.

uh....thats a tough one. Although you could just put in some artificial rose air freshener. mix it up with the real rose smell, I don't think she can tell the difference.

honestly, i would get her three dozen (i.e. past present and future) no reason to spend almost 1000$ on flowers. if you want the room to smell like roses, get some yankee candles in the scent of rose and light them in the room as well!
You are well on your way for her to be overwhelmed with the whole plan! Good job!
THE INN IS BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good lord! That's about 4x what they are down here. Scratch my idea.

11 dozens would be overkill.

3 dozens would be great. sprinkle rose petals in the room. some candles to set the mood and you're all set.

enjoy your weekend!

I'm leaning towards two dozen in a single vase.

Thanks for all the responses.

Do you guys want an update after the weekend with pictures?
