Attention All GeForce4 owners!! HS/Fan Fell Off!!

I've seen a few posts around about rattling HS/F units on their GeForce4 cards.

I've got a VisionTek Geforce4 Ti4200 (had it for about a month or so - Love It!).

Well, mine started to rattle a few days ago. I opened my chassis, a lo and behold, there was the HS/Fan sitting on top of my Modem!! Fell right off the GPU!
Good thing it didn't fry my USR Performance Pro modem, or I would have been really pissed.

So I drilled 2 holes in the mounting tabs on the HS/Fan, added some thermal grease, and screwed it into the mounting holes in the PCBoard. Should have been done by VisionTek if you ask me! They should know that the AGP (and luckily for my modem) PCI cards sit upside down in the PC!

Fortunately for me, the GPU was fine without even a heatsink attached to it for a couple of days!! Kudos to NVidia for that.

Just wanted to warn ya... if you hear that Death Rattle, be prepared for a quick fix, or an RMA!

Gee, isn't that nice.

More of a visiontek thing I'd guess. Email them and tell them so hopefully they start mixing their glue right.

Actually they use a blue orb & typical thermal grease w/ 2 push pins from what I have seen.

I've got a Leadtek/Winfast GeForce 4 Ti4600 and it has one of the best HSF that i have seen on a video card, and there isn't any chance that this thing is coming off too easily at all. All of the Leadtek GeForce 3's and GeForce 4's that I own have excellent HSF on them. I have a Gainward GeForce 3 Ti200 with 128MB DDR-which was labeled as a Ti500, but in reality the GPU is only a Ti200, the Gainward box's model # is GeForce 3 Ti500 Golden Sample with 128MB DDR, it has a small NVidia label printed on the box that says NVidia GeForce 3 Ti200 GPU, talk about false advertising, and it has a Red colored Blue Orb with a bar across it that says Gainward and Red memory heatsinks. The HSF on the Gainward isn't too impressive at all, it is rather cheap looking. I ordered it online and thought that it was a Ti500, when in reality, it was only a Ti200 GPU.
The Visiontek Video cards are supposed to have a lifetime warrenty, at least that is what i have heard, if so, you shouldn't have any problem getting it replaced. I have never bought any of the Visiontek Video cartds, i have always stcuk with either Leadtek, Hercules, Elsa, or Asus and have never had any problems with any of them.

My fan was rattling inside my heatsink, but it seems to have straightened out now and isn't making anymore noise.

I have a PNY btw.

If it falls off ill just reattach it or something, dont think I will need to RMA it.

Those little, mini blue Orbs are a POS. My Visiontek came with the standard, nVidia reference cooler and it's one of the best I've seen in a factory unit. They should have never switched from it.
