I just recently purchased the eVGA varient, & installed the 169.21's. Just for kicks, I fired up Doom3, and set the resolution to 1600x1200 HQ 16x AF...and there was some noticable stutter! WTF! I figured this card would destroy that game, being that it's 4 years old now.

I've read that these particular drivers have supposedly broken several games (including graphics corruption in Doom3). Is anyone running drivers other than these? If so, can you pls comment on your experiences with them? I'd was going to try earlier drivers, but am a bit leery since the 169.21's are the 1st release for the GTS...and I was going to install Crysis.

Tks,
OH

Edit: I'm running XP Pro SP2

NVIDIA Screwed up... they have been playing musical drivers.... 169.25, and 169.28 Beta are the only drivers that support the (G92) GTS The 169.25 WHQL are available on their site now... and 169.28 Beta is available thru your vendors support downloads.

Micklebud, you can still use Riva; ignore the message the the driver is unsupported. Here's how to enable the 8800 GTS (copied from Guru3d forums):

"You can manually add 8800GTS 512 support to RT's hardware database by editing RivaTuner.cfg and adding 8800GTS 512 PCI DeviceID (600h) to G92 line of the [GPU_10DE] section." (Edit: add ,600h to the G92 line and save the file.)

Then, launch Riva, click the Power User tab, expand RivaTuner \ Fan and edit AutoFanSpeedControl by clicking on the grey value box and adding a "3". Then, restart Riva. I set the fan speed fixed @ 60%, keeps it nice & cool, & isn't loud.

I've been running the 169.25s too, and I'm impatiently waiting for nvidia to release a driver version that actually works (stupid game profile AA bug.) :|

I'm running 169.21's and they seem to work well though the fan being stuck at 29% was annoying. I was hitting in the mid 80's while playing UT 3 so I installed riva and have the fan set to 50%, I'll see how games do now.

I have just started to see some system instability that is starting to bother me. Last night UT 3 crashed in the middle of a game (just stuck there, nothing else) and this morning my pc seemed to be on but I could not get anything to display on the monitors. As far as I could tell from the system lights it was working and had not hung but there was still something wrong with the displays... Not sure but so far this 8800GTS 512 has not been my favorite.

Hey Spike, the 169.28 beta drivers supposedly fix the UT3 crashing issue. The 169.21's (for Win XP) are absolute friggin crap. I guess NVidia is focusing more & more on Vista drivers now, and XP users are getting the shaft.

1. You can get the beta driver from nvidia's website directly, no need for "partners". You just gotta know how to look for it (its at the bottom at a link that says beta drivers)
2. I got one three days ago. Riva tuner could not change any of the low setting it (like say, fan speed)... it ran real hot for aboun hour, and then fried (it now has severe artifacts even in bios menu...)
3. I was using the .25 drivers... but since then I got the .28 beta drivers...

I am gonna return it. and keep the money for later. I was hoping to just use it until the 9800GTX comes out and then step up, but I will wait for something more fitting... This thing is HUGE and was a pain to fit in the case (compared to my 7900GS). I had to cram one of my hard drives in the floppy bay to make it fit (I have 5 HDDs)

Running 169.25s, no problems so far. But yeah, this thing is beasty, I wasn't sure if it went in my computer or in my VCR cause the thing is the size of a VHS tape! No complaints about perf though. Max graphics in WIC, COD4, and CoH. Loving every minute of it. Not upgrading untill a 98XX card comes out that seems worth the monies.
Oh, I got the EVGA model and it came with a scratch resistant peice of plastic film covering the face of the card. Didn't realize this till I saw it peeling off! Scared me for a second, but I'd have peeled it off had I seen it first time around.

Also, which version of Riva is the latest that would support Vista64?

I'm using the 169.28 drivers. I play Crysis at 35fps on a mix of medium and high at 1600x1050 (only play it that high cause it's my LCD's native resolutions and others look like crap). Your PC should kill Doom 3...try some different drivers :).

I've been using the 169.25's without any problems. In regards to RivaTuner, I just ignored the unsupported message and have had no problems playing with fan speeds/setting fan profiles.

I use the 169.25 drivers and they have been stable so far without any driver failure messages. As for crysis there's a v1.1 patch available now and I've been able to play at high settings since getting it where I could only use medium before and keep the game playable.
