Just putting this out there for those of you who haven't been contacted about this problem:

RECALL: 2003-2007 Cadillac CTS

www.nhtsa.dot.gov

Recall Date: MAR 15, 2010
Potential Number Of Units Affected: 139131
Description SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS

Summary: GENERAL MOTORS HAS NOTIFIED NHTSA OF A DEFECT IN CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2003-2007 CADILLAC CTS VEHICLES CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN OR ORIGINALLY SOLD IN CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, MAINE, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, WASHINGTON D.C., WEST VIRGINIA AND WISCONSIN. SOME OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE A CONDITION IN WHICH THE FRONT BRAKE HOSE FITTING AT THE CALIPER MAY CORRODE DUE TO SNOW OR WATER, CONTAINING ROAD SALT OR OTHER CONTAMINANTS, ENTERING AND BEING RETAINED IN THE ROUTING SLEEVE. IF THE FITTING CORRODES SIGNIFICANTLY, THE BRAKE HOSE-TUBE INTERFACE MAY DEVELOP A LEAK.

Consequence: THE BRAKE HOSE-TUBE INTERFACE MAY RUPTURE SUDDENLY WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING AND INCREASE VEHICLE STOPPING DISTANCE MAY OCCUR INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS ARE TO REPLACE BOTH FRONT BRAKE HOSE ASSEMBLIES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING MAY 2010.

I wasn't notified about this recall and this was just yesterday almost the end of May.

I was fortunate that a bad AC and Airbag warning light prompted me to visit the dealership were I was informed about the recall.

Which also makes me want to remind you fellow CTS owners that Cadillac has had a whole lot of problems with their Airbag systems as well before, where they would not deploy even in a frontal collisions at high rates of speed. If you are in doubt about anything, GO TO YOUR DEALERSHIP and have your car examined ASAP.

My Airbag harness turned out to be bad and a replacement has been ordered, brake lines are being replaced as well obviously. Airbag service light only came up a couple of times and went away, had I not been paying attention who knows...

If you have a 2003-2007 CTS you might be at risk of losing your brakes and or having your Airbag not deploy, putting you and your passengers at great risk I might add, contact your Cadillac dealership for a fix it might save your life.

Recall is only for states that have a lot of salt. Even my car which was from the north, bought in PA, and driven in 100year snow shows very little wear.
But a free brake flush with new hoses sounds fine to me. :)

"Cadillac has had a whole lot of problems with their Airbag systems as well before"

What do you base that off of?

Well, I base that off this for starters:

GM recalls one million cars due to inadvertent airbag deployment.

August 13, 1998

GM has added 103,000 Cadillacs from model year 1995 for inadvertent airbag deployment to the recall after GM received 301 complaints, including 130 airbag related injuries. The NHTSA received 166 complaints of inadvertent airbag deployment, including 92 injuries.

This week, General Motors has recalled 12,662 MY2009 Cadillac CTS vehicles for a possible faulty passenger airbag-sensing system.

The affected switch could disable the front-passenger airbag when it should be enabled or enable it when it should be disabled. It goes without saying, the result is an increased risk in personal injury or death.

On November 18, 2008, authorized Cadillac dealers will begin to reprogram all affected passenger-sensing airbag modules free of charge.

For more information, consumers are encouraged to call Cadillac at 1-866-982-2339.

Below is the NHTSA's official recall notice:

Vehicle Make / Model: CADILLAC / CTS

Model Year(s): 2009

NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number:
08V582000

Summary:

GM IS RECALLING 12,662 MY 2009 CADILLAC CTS VEHICLES FOR FAILING TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 208, 'OCCUPANT CRASH PROTECTION.' UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, A SOFTWARE CONDITION WITHIN THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM MAY DISABLE THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG WHEN IT SHOULD BE ENABLED OR ENABLE IT WHEN IT SHOULD BE DISABLED.

Consequence:

IN A VEHICLE CRASH, IF THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG DOES NOT OPERATE AS DESIGNED, INCREASED PERSONAL INJURY COULD OCCUR.

Remedy:

DEALERS WILL REPROGRAM THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM MODULE FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL WILL BEGIN ON NOVEMBER 18, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CADILLAC AT 1-866-982-2339 OR BY VISITING THEIR WEB SITE AT WWW.GMOWNERCENTER.COM.

Notes:

GM RECALL NO. 08373. CUSTOMERS MAY CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153); OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

And I will not be surprised if 2003-2007 CTS get an airbag recall. My advice is to get your car scanned for any errors and if at all possible get them to take a look inside.

What. So you are basing it on something that happened before the car was even made and then on another recall that effects a different line and is because of something that was not even a option in the first gen?

Thats like me saying don't buy that new Ford as the Pinto had problems.

No, not so. I am saying Cadillac recently has a had problems with their Airbag systems, New generation of CTS has airbag recall. Previous generation has Airbag problem from personal experience => Potential problem with previous generation airbag system => Get it checked for your own safety and don't wait till you become another statistic in the recall to come if it does come. When you do the brake line recall have them take a look is what I am saying really.

I think you may be straining your logic a little.

A recall 12 years ago for a bad design, then a recall two years ago for 12000 units because of a part that was defective from a supplier....... the two have nothing in common.

That may be, but it doesn't help that my airbag harness all the sudden went bad. I am saying others should get theirs examined when they take their CTS for the brake lines recall.

And check out this entry on a blog from a 2007 CTS owner:
http://www.theairbagblog.com/airbag-laws/gm-airbag-defect-in-cadillac-cts/
I had a crash at about 50-60 mph hitting center wall driver side on freeway no air bags deployed most damage done on driver side i was seriously injured should air bags have deployed on this 2007 cts ?

Lawyer's input on such matters:
I would not be at all surprised if GM had received other such complaints, which they often document through “1241 forms”. However, those are internal GM documents and you probably won’t get them from GM without a lawsuit.

That's pretty much how recall cases are built, they keep documenting complaints until it's deemed a major problem, at which point it becomes recall, but after what? After all is said and done in some cases. It's better to be safe than sorry.
