Attended MS' "Windows 7 The New Efficiency" event, got 32bit NFR Windows 7 Ultimate. How can I get 64bit?

I was "waitlisted" for the event but I got in anyway by just going and approaching the guy at the front. :D It was only a block away, so what did I have to lose?

While I still appreciate it, I was disappointed to receive a 32bit copy of Win7. I'd like to know what 64bit disc will take my 32bit license/key and allow the install.

The key works for both 32 and 64 bit. You can contact microsoft to get the 64-bit disc or other means. /thread

I don't have the link at the moment, but I saw a post elsewhere that said Microsoft had set up a follow-up mailbox for those who wanted a 64-bit Win7 DVD from the New Efficiency Launch Event:

tne64@microsoft.com

This mailbox wasn't functioning when it was supposed to be, but it's now accepting email.

Oh, and NFR Keys are normally "Retail-like".

Hi,

Thanks for attending the Seattle event and for your interest in Windows 7. What?s your name?

Did you take the 32-bit disk at the event? If so, we?d be glad to exchange it. Here is what you need to do:

? Please return your 32bit version in a sealed envelope to:
Microsoft
One Microsoft Way
Redmond, WA 98053
ATTENTION: Juliana Tioanda, c/o Javier Nino

? Please include your name, email address, and mailing address.

? Please let me know if you have activated the 32-bit key.

Once we receive your 32-bit disk, we will add you to our fulfillment list for an exchange to a 64-bit version ? to be sent out approximately 30 days after we receive your 32-bit disk.

Please note:
? We have limited quantities of the 64-bit media available as part of this Windows 7 promotional event. We can only fulfill exchange requests we receive within 2 weeks of the attended event.

? Any 64 bit media returned to Microsoft as non-deliverable will not be re-sent.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Again ? thank you for your interest in Windows 7!

On behalf of The Windows 7 Launch Team,
Juliana

Thanks for the link. But I don't want to Exchange it. I want the 64 Bit DVD in addition to my 32 Bit copy
so I can use either one whenever I see fit. That is insane that MS would want the other disc back.

It looks like they also deactivate the key or replace it or something. They want to know the activation status for SOME reason.

Whoever received the above "Seattle" letter could no longer meet the "must receive disk within two weeks of the Event" anyway. The Seattle event was on Oct. 12, fifteen days ago. About 2/3 of the Events don't meet the two-week criteria anymore.

So burn a copy of the 32-bit disc before mailing it?

The requirement doesn't make sense. It never asks for your Key and the Key isn't on the disk. So the request, "Please let me know if you have activated the 32-bit key", is completely useless. If MS wanted Keys, they should have asked for the package the disk came in.

It does not make sense. The same key is good for 32 or 64 bit .. So why should they care if you activated it already ? ?
For example, I currently have a 32 bit cpu and installed Win 7 .. Later next year, I update mobo / cpu / ram to 64 Bits
and deactivate old OS and activate new 64 bit copy. Same key. Why give up the DVD if I want to use again later ? ?

I was just wondering the same thing. I got my fancy new DVD from the OC event yesterday, and it's only the 32-bit version. Now I have another NFR copy that has both 64 and 32bit, that I'm hoping will work with the key I got from yesterday's event.

My main question is whether the OS license lets you use your key for either 32bit or 64bit. I think that it does...but I'm just not positive.

It's highly likely your Launch Event Key will work with the other NFR disk(s). Historically, nearly all (all?) NFR disks have contained "Retail-like" versions of the software.

Should I send an email to that email address provided and wait for an official response on what to do?

or

Should I follow the instructions in Boo Boo's post and mail off my DVD? I attended the San Diego event on Mon Oct 26th

No reply here, either. That email address was announced last week on an MS blog or forum, but their server was refusing emails to that account until this week.

Still no reply here either. Where did Boo Boo get that posted message from? I think I'm just going to mail my disk off and hope for the best.

BTW, a search shows that Juliana Tioanda is an outside marketing consultant working for Microsoft on the Launch Event. That's likely why the "c/o Javier Nino" in the address. He's likely a Microsoft employee and she's not.

I'd definitely make a copy of my DVD....

I received this email from Juliana Tioanda today in response to the email I sent her a few weeks ago:

==================================

Dear xxxxxx:

Thank you for your interest in Windows 7 and for attending our Launch Event.

We’re in the process of having more 64-bit DVDs pressed. We’ll send you a 64-bit disk (without a key) mid next week via UPS Ground. This is what you need to do.

• If you haven’t already, please click here to email us your shipping address and phone number.

• Please keep your 32-bit disk and the product key that’s on the original packaging because you’ll need the key to activate the 64-bit disk.

Best Regards on Behalf of the Windows 7 Launch Team,

Juliana

I got that same email that Rebatemonger got in my email this morning. So I guess in about 2 weeks the 64 bit dvd will be in hand. And they are not asking for the 32 bit dvd back, as it should be. And of course, the email confirms that the key you got at the launch will work with the 64 bit versions.

The first announcement, credited to Juliana, was pretty strange. But I think it was legitmate. I just think it was created by somebody who had no technical background in such things.

It's looking good now, though.

Ok - so send an email to tne64@microsoft.com [Juliana Tioanda's email?] indicating you attended the event, received a 32 bit version, and would like to request a 64 bit version [basically cc what RebateMonger received]?
