DVD is in the handycam, it is not finalized. Though that should not matter. Im curious though, is it just like uploading digi photos?

Plug into the PC, upload it to a website...etc..

I want to be able to post a link that will download the movies at a website, though I am unsure how to do this.

Im also using mozilla, will I need to use IE to do this?

I dont have Windows Media Editor, but there are some scenes I need to delete or edit, how would I do this?

If I do need to upload it to a website, what website would that be?

thanks for any help.

What do I do?

First you need to download the DVD movie into your hdd. Then you can use a movie editor like Video Studio to edit the movie. You need to cut the movie into smaller video files and then edit and spliced together using the movie editor. As soon as you have smaller video files then you can upload the movie into the net. You'll have to RTFM, or at least provide some useful info to us (like what kind of camera you have, what OS you are using, etc.)

Your camera should have come with software to do this.

If it's a DV camera, you'll want to use Firewire to connect it, so it can transfer the video digitally.

Its a DV sony handicam.
Bought it 6 months ago, cost around 1,000 bucks.

It was the best model they had.

It came with wire connectors and stuff and I tried to use them, but I cant seem to find the videos.
Is this helping?

You have to use your Firewire connection. USB will not work for movies

like the previous posts;

1. what is the model # of your handicam
2. i am sure you have a firewire or 1394 connection, find it
3. i have a sony mini-dv camera and i had to buy a mini-firewire cable to connect to my computer
4. every Win XP comes with Windows Movie Maker II. that should be enough for a beginner to download and edit movies

Ok I got everything sorted out.

Apparently I never recieved the Software CD, after 2 hours with customer service..there sending me the CD for free. (which would have cost me 70 bucks)

What a hassle.

Spent 1000 bucks for the camera in August of 04', then had to spend 250 bucks getting the camera fixed in September of 2005, and after 1300 of cash placed into this camera, I still cant upload the videos to my computer. Not to mention the camera is worth 600 bucks now.

Ugh.

I hope it works after they send me the CD.

With Windows Movie Maker, will I be able to insert music and turn off sounds from the video? Can I also re-arrange scenes and delete scenes?

1. I hope the repairs were under warranty. If not purchase items with an AMEX, it doubles manf. warranties or replaces your items up to 50K/year. This is great for computer items.

2. You 'should not' need any software to connect the camera to your computer. My sony was detected by XP Pro without any drivers or software and this was a couple years ago.

3. Yes, with MS WMM you can insert/delete sound, re-arrange/delete scenes, create menus, transitions, credits, etc. For special effects and more advanced options you will probably have to go retail. For basics as mentioned you should be good to go.

Just remember that still pics only for the USB connection and video is by Firewire.
You did figure out your FireWire connection right?

I would actually recommend plugging in your camera via firewire to your computer and turning your camera ON and see if Windows recognizes the camera, I think is should without additional software.

My USB came with software.

The USB an AV cables will not work if the software is not installed.
And I need the USB to upload the videos to the computer.

I just didn't have the software, so there sending it to me.

My model number was Sony DV 201. (It was the top of the line in laste 2004)

i stand corrected, you cam does not have a 1394 connection just usb2 and you do need drivers which sony does not provide online.

good luck with that level of support. you can still use wmmii even though your disk will have some editing software.

good news :)

after much googling I found the USB driver for Sony DVD cams. PM or email me for the file. Here are the installation directions:

How to install the USB driver for Windows XP Home Edition / Professional, Windows 2000 Professional and Windows Me

Extract the compressed file

After downloading the file double click it so the dialog box will appear. By default your files will be extracted to your desktop in a folder called [sony_usb] , if you want to change this location enter the prefered location in the dialog box.

Installing the USB driver

Make sure the camera is NOT connected to the computer
Open the [sony_usb] folder on the desktop and double click the setup icon
The installation program starts up, follow the on screen instructions to complete the installation
When the installation is completed, restart the computer following the on screen instructions
Connect the camera to the computer

After the computer is restarted, connect the camera to the computer properly with the supplied USB cable. Make sure the camera is turned on and the Memory stick is in the camera
The computer should now recognize the hardware, and a message to add the hardware appears. Please follow the instruction on the screen
In case the device is not recognized we suggest you to consult our USB Troubleshooting Tutorial

can't help you with that. you need a webhost with a lot of storage and bandwidth if you are uploading videos for others

If you are having trouble with this camera and provided software then try Sony Vegas Movie Studio 6 that has support for all their dvd camcorders and apparently works well. Much better than the supplied software. It seems that other vid progs have problems with the file format etc.
Other option is to finalize the disk so it is readable in your computer and copy that way. But this is a rehash method too if you need to edit.

Oh if I finalized the disk it will run in my computer??

REALLY?

Windows Movie Maker appears to be a little too..complicated for me, I cant find I way to cut out scenes..just split them. Which is a pain.

Is Sony Vegas Movie studio 6 free?

Man, listen to RKS. He downloaded the driver and everything for you. Try using Pinnacle or something to edit the video. Doom9 is a great site to learn all about digital video, and they have tons of useful tutorials.

I hate to tell you this, but if you think WMM is too complicated, forget the rest of them. WMM is probably the easist NLE to use. Pinnacle Studio is on the same bar. Vegas is at least twice as complex.

WMM will not be able to import your movies directly through USB. Hopefully, the software that is in the mail will offer you a solution. If you had a DVD drive, you should be able to read the files on the DVD. They will be MPEG2, IIRC, so WMM will be a challenge to use (WMV and DV-AVI are best with WMM).

Pinnacle Studio 9 and 10 can edit MPEG2 (version 10 may have Liquid's ability to edit without requiring a recode). I think Vegas' home version might be able to do the same, but don't know. Adobe also has an editor (which is even more complicated if it is built from Premiere). Ulead, Sonic, and a ton of other folks sell editors too.

Edit - You can take a free online class CNet Digital Video class. It started yesterday, but you can at least look at it. They will junk mail you for signing up, but it is about 3 pieces a week and I think you can opt out.

Wow, thanks. WMM just appeared complicated at first because I have never, ever used a movie editor before.

I have about an hour worth of footage and that is going to turn into 11 minutes of decent footage.

Does anyone know any good p2p file sharing networks?

I dont use it often because im not a big fan of piracy, but my itunes has been disabled on my computer for some weird reason so im stuck with that crap untill I subscribe to nabster or something.

limewire used to be good till they stopped letting you download the good crap.

I need some Queen Songs, weezer....nocturne (classical piece) and some Frank Sinatra. (come fly with me, most likely)
