attempting to schedule volunteers

So I'm running the book fair again this Spring and I've taken the scheduling of volunteers upon myself. I had volunteers turn in sheets marking which time slots they'd be available. Previously, the scheduling was always done by hand but I thought I'd try to automate it somewhat if I can (the engineer in me likes to be as organized as possible).

Is there any software tools out there that I could use for something like this? I thought I'd ask before I start writing a program to do it for me.

The things I'm looking for:

1) I'd like to enter the time slots in the program
2) I'd like to enter each volunteer into the system and check which time slots they'd be available for
3) I'd like the program to then fill each time slot with volunteer maximizing volunteer participation (for example, people that can only do 1-2 time slots, I want to make sure they're scheduled).

I know it's asking a lot but If nothings out there, I can just write something.

TIA!

We use google forms to register folks for our clubs contest. At work we use Google forms to fill out for our daily time. Check it out it's very versatile. Take the tour to make some test forms.

When you volunteers enter their information it's saved to a google spreadsheet file which can be changed to a excel file etc. Check it out it's very versatile. Take the tour to make some test forms.
