I did a cpu swap e4300 to q6600 on W2K pro. gigabyte 965p dsr3
the system was rock solid on the dualcore, but became all kinds of unstable after the swap.(failure to boot, unable to soft boot, random shutdown)
I had two partitions C:130GB D:150GB on a seagate 300GB HD. the Cdrive was OS and applications, and the Ddrive was data.
since W2K pro doesn't support quadcore, i got a copy of 2K advanced server(legit) and tried to install from within windows[big mistake it seems] I think it set up a temp partition that had the server install files. It didn't install correctly and aborted, but i still had a working 2Kpro partition.
So I tried to do a boot from cd install and when it came time to pick an active partition it couldn't recognize the two partitions. It offered to format the C partition and when it did so, the install section saw the partition space was all broken up into a bunch of chunks with random sizes (26GB,82GB,unrecognized 800GB[wtf], and another 24GB chunk.) When I try to install it says it has to make a previous install inactive and I accept but it still cant install.
----I don't care about the Cdrive, but now a separate OS install on another HD cant see the previous Ddrive. I formatted the C partition in diskmanagement and tried to reinstall the OS. The same funky partition sizes are there. Now i cant find the D drive.
*****Did I screw myself on this one?*********
I have a copy of PartionMagic somewhere, is there any hope?
it feels like the data is still there as when I partition sections of the drive, some already have used and free space info.
