Really crappy deal. Four guys attempted to hold up a gun store locally. The owner ends up dead and 3 of the robbers are wounded.

The co-owner of a Shawnee gun store was fatally shot and three suspects were wounded during an attempted robbery Friday afternoon.

The gunfight broke out after four robbers entered She’s A Pistol, at 57th Street and Nieman Road, about 2:10 p.m., according to Shawnee police.

Jon Bieker, 44, of Gardner, who co-owned the business with his wife, Becky Bieker, died later at a hospital, police said.

Would be cheaper to give a few prisoners $50 store credit to shiv them.
I'd cough up the $50 or a .20c bullet. Which ever.

Oh, wait. That won't happen. Our confessed cop killer got life. I hope the canteen doesn't sell lube.

RIP brave store owner. Hopefully the worthless sacks of shit that killed you have a miserable life from here on out.

That takes some big balls or some extreme stupidity. The cash on hand at a gun store has to be huge on any given day. Very tempting to the druggies.

They thwarted the robbery but the price was kinda high. They might have been killed anyway though. Tough call. You pays your money and you takes your chance.

I doubt they were after money. Most large purchases at a gun store are done with credit cards, so at most they may have a few hundred bucks. The robbers goal was likely to steal weapons and resell them on the street.

Robbing a guy almost guaranteed to have a gun and most likely a better shot than you is not wise. They thought bringing 4 people would be enough but it looks like they guessed wrong. Sadly the owner lost his life.

High risk store to operate. Constant target for robbery. Maybe if they would have surrendered their merchandise he would still be alive, but maybe not. No way to know. Shit sucks.

You might be right but where I live, most long guns are purchased with cash. In fact, anything that can be purchased in the gun store with cash is purchased that way.

Is it just me...or is trying to rob a gun store a really, really bad idea?

yea, its a very bad idea. even if the owners weren't armed all the guns are locked up either in a case with trigger guards or on the rack. which takes time to unlock and put in the get away bag. precious time that a robbery suspect does not have.

When my Mrs. and I are getting ready to leave the range we always scan the parking lot first and pop the trunk before we get to the car so we can secure the guns without delay. You never know what some desperate dipshit might try to pull.

At our local gun stores every employee is open carrying. I think the employers require it. Even the gunsmith in the back of one shop carries.

A sad story. 4 gunmen with the element of surprise is tough to overcome.

For related reading with a happier ending, I recommend Harry Beckwith's story, wherein he turned back 7 armed robbers from his gun store.
