Attaching Heatsink to a T-Bird

I'm admittedly a neophyte at CPU installation.

In a few days I will have a new Athlon T-Bird 800Mhz in one hand and a Heatsink in the other. What is the best way to attach one to the other. I've heard that thermal pads are not good, while thermal compound (or was that thermal glue? thermal paste?) is much better.

I'm not planning on overclocking the chip right away, but even still, what is the best way to get the CPU in good working order?

Thanks in advance.

PS: Just for completeness, yes the Heatsink is coming with a fan too :)

Graylien, you are right about the thermal pads being not as good. Even the worse thermal grease conducts heat better than a pad.

Oh yeah, and don't forget, a thin layer of thermal grease/paste will do the trick.
