The rubber footrest pad on my car came off this week. I cleaned up the the residual adhesive on the carpet with mineral spirits (paint thinner). Googling this I could not find any info on what adhesive/glue to use to re-attach it. A local car dealership suggested a rubber gasket cement. I think a contact cement like this one may work better. It can be purchased at Advance Auto for only $2.24. Someone also suggested Gorilla Glue, but checking their website shows it is not recommended for use on rubber.

Does any know what adhesive car manufacturers use to glue the rubber pad to the carpet or have another suggestion?

Silicone caulking is usually pretty good for gluing things down, and it doesn't harden.

Elmer's School Glue

Silicone caulking does not adhere to rubber, tried it, peels right off when dry.

3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive, the yellow version, or the Permatex equivalent is my second choice.

Anyone know specifically what adhesive the car manufacturers use???

Just thought I'd update this if someone else has this problem. The Permatex Contact Cement, $2.24 + tax at Advance Auto, worked well. First scuff up the back side of the rubber footpad with some coarse sandpaper and after applying the cement to both the footpad and carpet let it sit a minumum of 10 minutes before attaching the footpad to the carpet. Give it at least 24 hours to fully cure before using.
