Hi. I recently bought a slot A CPU used and it already has the case removed and I was planning on using a Goldfinger to oc it. I have no experience with the slot A processors and was planning on shipping the final computer to a friend, so my question is for the people here who overclocked their slot a processors: How did you secure the cpu to the board once the outer case was removed? Just curious, any suggestions from experience would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would not ship with the processor installed. I usually just let the slot hold the processor when I was running caseless processors. I never had one just fall out. Some people used zip ties to hold them in place also. What kind of HSF are you using? I always liked the Panaflo Orbs for direct core contact, or modded Alphas.

I am not sure what the HSF is, it came with it when i bought the CPU. The heat sink is huge though and it has a 60 mm fan attached, actually the heatsink is so big that it blocks the 3rd ram slot on the ASUS board that I am using. I thought to ship the CPU seperate but figured if there was a good (easy) way to attach the cpu, I would do it. Thanks.

I had a heavy hsf (Arctic Circle) on my Slot A with the cpu case totally removed. Midtower installation, never a problem with it slipping out of socket. That hsf feels like about 2lbs btw. I wouldn't ship the system like that, but for use, I wouldn't worry about it falling out.

PS Never ever considered securing the cpu in there. Didn't see a need.
