Hi, I don't know how many of you are using paid Yahoo mail (either from AT&T Yahoo DSL service or paying directly to them via Yahoo mail plus). If you are, you may have noticed the recent addition of very intrusive ads (see the funny comment development, from before to after people actually got the new "upgrade" at this thread: http://yodel.yahoo.com/2007/05...d-storage-its-coming/).
So I'm looking for an alternative now in the L.A. area. This is a good excuse to get something better and faster. I have the Yahoo DSL package of 3 mbps, but I only get max about 2.5 mbps (I had to call them to bump up to that speed, originally I was getting just 1.6 mbps!) because they told me I am too far away to get full speed. I know this is a limitation with regular copper wire DSL, but not with fiber optics or cable.
So anyone has Earthlink cable connection? I can get the 5mbps connection for $29.99 for 6 months and something like $42 thereafter. I know people who haven't had a good experience with Earthlink, but at this point, I will take anything over AT&T. I wouldn't even have signed for it, but before it was SBC. I hate anything AT&T or AOL.
I have some specific questions, besides your general feelings.
What email service does Earthlink use?
Do I need (I mean really need) to install any software? I hate that.
Any hidden fees?
Thanks a lot, much appreciated.
