Just dropped dish network. Got ATT Uverse with 12 mbs down, 200 stations with HD and unlimited land line call in the US. Netflix streams great. DSL speed tests consistently show 11.5 mbs down. Problem is surfing the net is no faster than when I was on the DSL Pro 3.0 mbs down. Task manager shows very low cpu usage 2-8%. 4 gigs ram. Memory shows 2766 cached and 1.7 gig under memory. Anyone have uverse and not seen an increase in internet speed? I do not know if this should be here or in networking. I will have it moved if I am crushed.

Yeah, probably wrong forum, but FWIW, I dropped Uverse last November and went to Comcrap. My internet speed jumped by a tremendous amount. With Uverse, we were supposed to get 15 Mb/s, and speedtest showed between 12-13 most of the time. With Comcrap, I pay for 16 Mb/s service...

That's Powerboost for you. Lets you think you have a fast connection when you do speedtests and such.

Call it what you want...streaming videos work better/faster than with the Uverse DSL, downloads are lightning fast, web pages load tons faster...I'm happy with my internet speeds for the first time in years.

Uverse 12mb 2 upload. Had charter with 23mb down and it was much faster with much less ping. Uverse Internet is okay but I keep it cause the tv package and internet is pretty cheap and the tv is awesome.

I enjoy the TV way more then comcast. Comcast needs to clean up their channels and organize them. It's just disjointed. After switching to U-Verse and their easy grouping of channels, I refuse to go back to comcast and their random listing.

I would be happy to get dsl speed - any dsl speed, instead of isdn speed with 70% packet lose.

any comments on why my web pages do not refresh any faster?

Very little to do with your speed package, more to do with your pings. I've never gotten wonderful pings with DSL from any of the ATT 'organizations'. Unless you are loading big pages with lots of pictures, even going up to 100mbps wouldn't make much of a noticeable difference.

edit: and sometimes dns, as mentioned below.

I had Uverse 6 Mb, and received ~6 Mb speed.

I then upgraded to Uverse 12 Mb, and received ~12 Mb speed.

No problem.

For those of you with browsing problems, have you tried using DNS other than what Uverse gave you? Try Google's and see if anything improves.

I forgot to mention I was already.

16Mbps is still fast enough to do anything on the net. I can't believe we ever thought 512kbps was fast.

I'm not sure why you would expect general browsing to be any faster. 3.0mbit is more than fast enough for all but the worst-designed sites.

My 100mbit connection at work doesn't browse any faster than my 6.0mbit AT&T DSL at home. Why? Because a webpage is pretty small. Most web pages (images included) are less than 300KB, which is the approximate speed per second of 3.0mbit DSL. Downloading 150KB isn't going to take any kind of perceptably different amount of time over 3.0mbit or 12mbit or 1gbit.

Also, I never had any latency problems with my DSL or with my uVerse (when I lived in an area where I could get it).

Are you running windows xp, vista, 7 or something else? Go to this site - http://www.speedguide.net/

Left hand column - Broadband - Broadband tools - SG TCP/IP Analyzer. That should give you some tips as to what is going on with your TCP/IP settings. Sometimes your Rwin buffer is to small and needs to be adjusted, sometimes your frame size is out of whack. Run the test with and without your router in place.

If your running XP (and only xp), I would download these three files and install them: http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php

sguide_default_2k.zip
sguide_tweak_2k.zip
sguide_tweak_2k_pppoe.zip

Those three files - installed in that exact order - will reset your tcp/ip inner settings, and then tweak them so that you can get the most out of your DSL connection.

I used to work for a cable modem provider. Sometimes people would get exactly 56k with the cable modem. Come to find out they usually had installed some program that was "supposed" to speed up their internet. If your internet connection seems slow, there is probably a buffer setting that needs to be adjusted.

You might even want to try that TCP Optimizer v3.0.7 at the top of the download page.

thanks for all the help. My skill set in this area is not good, ergo I thought I would see a significant increase in web page loads. I am running Vista. One last question, would a wireless N connection make a difference is speed? I am on B.

You're on wireless B? That probably averages 4-5Mbit/sec, and maxes out at 11 (if you have perfect signal, which you usually don't).

My goodness man, upgrade to N already.

Just a small difference. People still use B?

Dual channel N here at work. 300Mbps yum!
