anyone know of any problems in ATI 9800 vga , specially ASUS A9800Pro ??

does it has any heat problems ??

please help me ,

Thankyou.

I used to have one, before i got a new case it would get so hot it would shut off occasionally. This was running at stock speeds, I googled around and i guess the do get pretty hot.

It is 256bit.

The 5800nu was a piece of garbage if i remember correctly. People called it the dustbuster or somthing... Anyways buying a 9800 PRO for an upgrade isnt worth it, but if your getting one cheap you might wanna consider it, as you will get $$$ from selling the 5800.

I have the made by ATI Radeon 9800Pro 128mb and it has worked wonderfully for years. I don't think it has any overheating problems...

I haven't OCed it at all.

Same here... but I use DVI.

I used to have heat problems trying to overclock the sucker, but not anymore. The artic cooling HS is quiet and awesome 🙂 Modded her up to an XT bios and continued to overclock her to Core=425.25 Mem=382.50.

BTW my old style case setup wasn't the best for cooling anyways, there were two passively cooled P3s and a 9800pro with that silly ati diamond shaped cooler. Had 2 case fans and the PSU's fan, and that was it. Never really had a problem with overheating even with all that.

Unless you have EXTREMELY poor airflow and cooling in your case, of course its going to be fine at stock speeds. They have to design those things so that retards with horrible case temps can put them in and have them work fine. So yes they may get "hot", as in hot to touch, but not that it can't work fine at those temps. I don't know what my 9800Pro temps were since it didn't seem to have a temp monitor, but even overclocking it to 395/355 (never tried any higher) it still worked normally.

yup those people with temp problems usually have a dell case with 1 exhaust fan, 1 psu fan and a presscottt. my friend has the same situation with his pos Dell XPS with a 9800. crashes all the time because of pos cooling from dell.

I have a better cooled case and i am permenantly at 9800xt speeds due to bios flsah. Can go up to 460/760 but i'm happy at 412/730

what is the highest overclock did u have done (with stock cooling)

I got an HIS one with a double slot cooler on it ,just finding out its overclocking limits atm.
Haven't tried RAM yet but the GPU seems to top out at about 425MHz 🙂
Will LYK what speed the RAM gets to.

1. is 9800XT is much better than 9800pro 256mb? (if i am not going to overclock)

2. what are the compatible aftermarket cooling (air-fans) systems for ASUS 9800pro ??

thanks

There is not much difference between the 9800pro 128mb vs the 9800XT 256mb if that answers your question.

I don't know about the 2nd since I have never owned the card.

Anandtech benchmarking of several 9800 Pro/XT 256

Sorry I couldnt find the article benching the 9800 pro 128 against the 9800 XT but its been a few years 🙂

Mines a Sapphire, had no problems, worked fine for years and Ive never had overheating problems but the stock heatsink did get boiling hot near the end of its life (then I replaced it with a Zalman VF700Cu for upgradability and noise purposes).

I use both VGA and DVI, dual monitor setup.

RAM's maxed out at 355MHz ,just 15MHz over stock

9800XT is about 10% faster than the 9800 Pro ,that linked test isn't much use as they aren't cranking the res & detail up much ,higher load will show a greater difference ,though it is true the difference isn't much.

My 9800XT is fine. I have a ATI Silencer on it, I seem to be able to get about 440/375 out of it. I'm not sure if those are the right numbers, since I havn't used it in a while (since I got my 7800GT SLI setup 😛).
