I am curious if Palm Pre and Andriod phone get dropped calls and poor 3G coverage like iPhone?

I merged the three duplicate threads.

To my understanding, coverage depends on the carrier and not the actual phone itself. So if the iPhone drops a call in a certain area chances are so will a Pre or any other phone. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

carrier aside, palm pre rocks socks :)

Give it a month to see lots of reviews and opinions roll in. Do NOT make assumptions based on the first person you hear from.

Exactly. Some phones may have better reception than others, but its not going to be a huge difference, not nearly the same as AT&T getting off their butts and adding towers.

I agree with sswingle and genesick. The iPhone hardware doesn't have particularly great reception due to the choices they made in terms of hardware and antenna. But the primary problem with the iPhone 3G and 3GS having dropped calls and 3G issues is it's reliance on AT&T 3G network and build out of that network can't meet the data demands of it's users in certain places - particularly in San Francisco and New York.

Moving a 3G phone like the Pre onto AT&T's 3G should give it the same network stability issues. AT&T has been making improvements to their network - the situation in San Francisco has gotten a lot better in the last 4 months according to anecdotal accounts from coworkers of mine. http://mobile.venturebeat.com/2010/...ers-but-is-still-rushing-to-speed-up-network/
