Just got an email that they're raising my grandfathered unlimited data by $5/month. At $35/month it's still pretty good among the major carriers but definitely makes me rethink if I truly still need it.

I'm still on this plan but I'm going to look around. I don't need unlimited data so I think I'm just wasting money. This plan was the main reason why I stuck with AT&T so I might look into T-Mobile now.

Ug, I have stayed on because of inertia but paying this much for 5 gigs of not throttled data is insanity.

Problem is all the value is in prepay, and I have such anxiety about losing my number. I wonder if a post-paid NEXT plan is a better deal even if I never use their phones...

Just port your number to google voice. Never worry about what number your actual phone is again.

I thought you no longer get throttled with this plan at 5 gb, they said they raised the cap to 22.5 gb if I remember correctly a little while ago because they got fined and pressured by the FCC.

Either way, if you're under contract this allows to to break away early with no ETF. It's pretty hard to beat T-mobile's plans but their signal seems to be worse than ATT and Verizon around here.

Yes, they did raised it because there were a few months where I was modding heavily and hitting Youtube hard and got text messages saying I was nearing the 23gb limit. I passed it one month and you can definitely feel once the throttling kicked on. Normally I'm around 10-12gb/month but can probably cut it down to 5-6gb if I'm overly frugal.

Bringing this topic back. I'm under contract until April 2017 (since they subsidized my Note 4). If I say no to the upcharge and terminate, will I be able to unlock my phone? I know the ETF will be waived. Anyone have an idea?
